Monday was supposed to be the last day to register to vote in Arizona, but that changed late Monday night. A federal judge extended Arizona’s voter registration deadline until 5 p.m. October 23rd. “Mi Familia Vota” and the “Arizona Coalition for Change” filed the lawsuit on September 30th, claiming the original voter registration deadline of October 5th would violate their First and 14th Amendment rights. Secretary of State Katie Hobbs says she will not appeal the decision. She does urge “anyone who still needs to register to vote, or update their registration, to do so as soon as possible.” People can register at servicearizona.com, or download a voter registration application at your county’s recorder website. To register to vote, an individual must be a U.S. citizen, 18 years old by Election Day, reside within a county and have no felony convictions, unless civil rights have been restored.
