Around 300 “Black Lives Matter” protesters gathered at the Flagstaff Police Department at Sawmill Thursday to march from there to downtown Flagstaff. Chants of “Black Lives Matter” and “No Justice, No Peace” and other chants were shouted through the streets as the group marched. Flagstaff Police Chief Kevin Treadway spoke to the group at City Hall and dropped to one knee in prayer with other members of the police department and the crowd. He told those gathered, “a lot of what you have to say, we agree with. What we saw in Minnesota with George Floyd was unacceptable, absolutely unacceptable,” with cheers that followed. Justice is one of the organizers of the protest and talks about why the protests are needed. “This is about unity, this about coming together for something that’s bigger than the individual and stand as a community as one. One love, one people, one voice that’s what this is about.” There are more protests set for Flagstaff Friday and Saturday at City Hall. All are being billed as non-violent gatherings.
