The Arizona Interscholastic Association endorsed the latest guidelines proposed by the Sports Medicine Advisory Committee for safe implementation of the return of sports and activity, meaning fall sports can get underway. The executive board reviewed the latest recommendations Wednesday. With that data and the state’s recorded number of COVID-19 cases declining over the past two weeks, the AIA agreed sports can continue to prepare for its seasons. AIA Executive Director David Hines said: “so the metrics have gotten to a place that we can start football practice.” He adds: “we can get kids in a helmet and shoulder pads and begin doing work.” Football practice can start Monday, with games starting the last week of September through October 3rd for week one. Other fall sports have begun practice, with golf having already started their seasons.  Flagstaff Unified School District officials say there will be no fans at games, at least for now, but that will be re-evaluated as the season progresses.  Coconino and Flagstaff each have home games in three of the seven weeks this year.  Coconino will play on Friday nights, while it isn’t known where Flagstaff will play those games and what day and time.
