A phone scam targeting mental health providers is making its way around Coconino County. Sheriff’s officials say they received two phone calls from mental health providers Wednesday who have received fraudulent phone calls saying they are being contacted regarding an emergency. In both cases, the scammer spoofed a legitimate phone number from the Sheriff’s Office and the caller ID information. The scammer claimed to be from the Sheriff’s Office and claimed he had an emergency situation. He provided a non-legitimate call back number. Variations of the scam may include claims there is a pending lawsuit or civil issue that needs immediate attention. It’s likely the scammer is trying to obtain personal information or a payment from you. If you get one of these calls, call the Sheriff’s Office.
