National Park officials say a bat recently tested positive for rabies at Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Officials say they collected the bat back on August 31st. They say the bat did not come in contact with any visitors. Recently, park visitors have reported an increase in human-bat interactions, including seeing them more often near the Colorado River. Anyone who has had physical contact with a bat are advised to seek medical attention. Park officials remind visitors to never approach or touch wildlife and to appreciate them at a safe distance. If you see a sick or erratic behaving animal, notify a park employee or call the emergency communications center.
