A man is dead after he drove the wrong way down Interstate-40 west of Flagstaff early Friday morning. The Department of Public Safety says 39-year-old Eric Weckwerth of Black Canyon City was driving his SUV eastbound on I-40 within the westbound lanes when he exited at A-1 Mountain Road at around 3 a.m. Weckwerth then went through a vegetated portion of the on-ramp, hit a concrete barrier, which caused the SUV to go airborne, over the wall and down an embankment. The vehicle landed upright on all-four wheels in the embankment on westbound I-40. Weckeworth was pronounced dead at the scene. DPS officials say alcohol may have played a role in the accident.
