There’s a bidding war going on with America’s dollar stores. Dollar General is offering 8.9-billion dollars to by Family Dollar Stores in an attempt to break up its planned merger with Dollar Tree. Dollar General is offering to pay 78.50 a share, which is four dollars more than Dollar Tree’s original bid. Dollar General’s offer is valued at 9.7 billion dollars after adding debt and the 305-million break-up fee that would be owed to Dollar Tree if the merger was broken off. There are three Dollar General stores in Northern Arizona, one in Sedona, Chino Valley and Cottonwood. There are two Family Dollar stores in Flagstaff, one on Highway 89 and the other on East Route 66.
